Irby & Angelotti

On another beautiful Tuesday morning the SJI class had some speakers come in to talk about ethics and crowd sourcing.
Kenneth Irby, Visual Group Leader & Director of Diversity Programs spoke on ethics and interactivity editor Ellyn Angelotti both professors at the Poynter Institute.
Irby spoke to us about the difference between right and wrong and we participated in an exercise on our first experience how we learned right from wrong. Kyle Goon spoke on his childhood love for Kool-Aid and how he tried to sneak it into his mother’s cart. It was good to hear different experiences from the students. Goon’s was the best by far in my personal opinion. :-)
Angelotti spoke to us about twitter and quoting people who use social networking sites in stories. It is often a shaky subject because athletes can claim that they don’t own the page or their page has been hacked. For example, when Paul Pierce’s twitter said, “Anybody got a BROOM?,” Pierce said that his twitter was hacked and he never wrote those words after the Celtics Game 2 win.
What was really interesting to me was how young Angelotti was to be a former New Media Editor at the Naples Daily News. She was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of good information. We have another session later I’m sure I will be on here for that.
